Tips To Make Lifesize Cutouts

Did you ever see something or someone that you wanted to make a life size cutout of, but thought it was too expensive to have someone make it for you?

Well it is expensive to have it made but, you don't have to have it made. You can just do it yourself. You need some basic tips to get started on a very enjoyable project that will help keep any memory alive for years to come.

The idea's you can think of will never end. Make a cardboard stand up of your pet, or of the couple celebrating their 50th anniversary. Or the graduate finishing first grade. What a life size cutout that would be.

Ok, lets get on with it.

The very first thing you need is a good quality photo of the subject. A 35 mm will work good or you can use any digital camera that is at least 4 mp. The photo should be taken as close to the subject as possible, without using the zoom. This will result in a clearer photo when you re-size it. The clearer the photo starts, the better the quality the finished project will be life size.

The next step is to your computer along with your printer, and a good software program. To make the project as inexpensive as possible, the program should be one that prepares individual sections that are put together like a puzzle. The pieces can be put together with almost invisible seams.

After you run your software program and it has prepared and printed your photo, you now need to decide what type of backing you want to use. You may not want to use cardboard if your finished project is going to be in the weather. There are different types of materials available, depending on your need.

#1--The first option is cardboard. It is the most cost effective and holds up
very well. Not the best for outdoor use.

#2--Next is foamcore, this had been the old way used and allows clean cuts, and
white edges.

#3--Then is coroplast which is good to use outdoors. Very strong, stable, and
lightweight. Good for quality, but corrugation lines tend to show a bit.

#4--And maybe the ultimate is pvc. It is the best to use outdoors and strong and
durable, not the cheapest, but maybe has the longest lifespan.

Just remember to use a top quality photo, your computer along with your printer and a good software program to prepare the photo and print it, and the best backing for your purpose. Just follow these few basic tips how to make a Life Size Cutout, and you'll be happy and proud to show off your finished project.
